Never leave burning candles unattended
Keep your grill away from the house. Just the heat can do damage to the siding, etc…
Make sure to have working smoke alarms throughout your home and business
Do not plug too many appliances into one outlet or strip
Never use a cooking stove to heat or help heat your home
Make sure to keep gutters and downpipes free of debris as this can cause water to collect and backtrack
If plumbing is accessible (in the basement for example) you should check it to make sure there is no corrosion or small leaks as this can lead to bigger problems in the future
Make sure to vent your clothes dryer properly as to not allow for build ups
Check your sump pumps regularly as this is a large cause of insurance claims
Make sure that you have proper attic ventilation so in the cold months, you have a less likely chance of an ice dam occurring on your roof
